AT A GLANCE

Name numbers assign numerical values to letters. The Pythagorean system repeats the values 1 through 9. An expression number uses every letter, a soul urge number uses vowels, and a personality number uses consonants.

Which name should you use?

The expression method described here uses your full birth name, including all given names and your surname at birth. A nickname or a later name is a different input. To compare results, record the exact spelling and the handling of special characters.

Checking the letter values

The groups are 1: A, J, S; 2: B, K, T; 3: C, L, U; 4: D, M, V; 5: E, N, W; 6: F, O, X; 7: G, P, Y; 8: H, Q, Z; 9: I, R. For ANNA, 1 + 5 + 5 + 1 = 12, then 1 + 2 = 3. This is an example using one name, not a complete personal profile.

Understanding the three perspectives

Expression symbolically concerns how you contribute. Soul urge focuses on inner wishes; personality focuses on outward presentation. These are not psychological measurements. Rules for Y, accented letters, and other characters vary, so follow the calculator's explicitly documented method.
