Base number

In this guide, one of the numbers 1 through 9 obtained through full reduction. It is an arithmetic endpoint and a reference for symbolic interpretation.

26 produces the base number 8. In 11/2, 2 is the base number while 11 is retained according to the master number rule.

Birth name

The complete name used as input for the expression calculation described here. It includes all given names and the surname at birth. The recorded spelling matters.

A surname adopted later is a different letter sequence. Both names can be considered separately, provided the input is clear.

Birthday number

A numerological number based on the day of birth. It uses less information than the life path number from day, month, and year. Reduction depends on the method.

For someone born on the 14th, simple reduction can give 1 + 4 = 5. That calculation alone does not determine their life path number.

Communication

Exchanging information, wishes, and boundaries. In a numerological reading, it means sharing actual experiences and examining suggested traits together.

This guide does not rank number pairs as good or bad. No interpretation excuses controlling behavior or disregard for boundaries. To make a change, describe the behavior you observe and the next step you want. You decide what your relationship needs.

Compatibility

The question of how people's needs, values, and behavior work together. Numerological comparisons approach it through symbolic number themes.

A wish for independence and a wish for shared time can begin a conversation. Concrete agreements reveal how both needs can be accommodated.

Digit sum

The sum of a number's individual digits. The digit sum of 26 is 8. Repeated reduction and master number exceptions are additional rules.

Use the day, month, and full birth year. For April 12, 1990, the digits add up to 1 + 2 + 0 + 4 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 26. Then 2 + 6 = 8. This example illustrates basic reduction. Master number cases also depend on the stated stopping rule.

Expression number

A name number using every letter of the full birth name, symbolically associated with contribution and expression.

The expression method described here uses your full birth name, including all given names and your surname at birth. A nickname or a later name is a different input. To compare results, record the exact spelling and the handling of special characters.

Life path number

A numerological value from a full birth date, read as a symbolic theme rather than a fixed description of a person.

Master number

A term for 11, 22, or 33 when a numerological method retains the value instead of reducing it further. It describes a convention and symbolic reading, not a hierarchy of people.

For example, 11/2 connects the retained 11 with its base number 2. The notation presents two interpretive perspectives without establishing special abilities.

Name number

An umbrella term for numbers calculated from letters in a name. The letters included determine the perspective being considered.

The expression method described here uses your full birth name, including all given names and your surname at birth. A nickname or a later name is a different input. To compare results, record the exact spelling and the handling of special characters.

Number symbolism

The use of numbers to represent meanings, images, or associations. Numerological texts may connect particular numbers with beginnings, connection, or responsibility.

Using 1 as an image of a beginning is a symbolic association. The mathematical properties of 1 do not prove that interpretation.

Numerological interpretation

A reading of a calculated value within a symbolic tradition. It follows the arithmetic but is not proved by the arithmetic being correct.

Two texts may describe 7 differently. The calculated value stays the same while language, emphasis, and interpretive framework vary.

Numerology

A symbolic interpretive system connecting numbers with meanings. It is distinct from mathematics and scientific personality assessment.

A life path number comes from a birth date. Name numbers use letters and distinguish expression, inner wishes, and outward presentation. A personal year number connects a birthday with a selected calendar year. Each perspective uses different information, so the results should not be treated as interchangeable.

Personal cycle

A numerological model connecting periods of time with recurring symbolic themes. Personal year interpretations commonly consider a sequence of nine base numbers.

A theme such as completion can prompt the question: which task would I like to finish? The cycle does not establish that an event will occur.

Personal reflection

Deliberate consideration of your experiences, decisions, and needs. A numerology text can supply a question, while the answer comes from actual experience.

Instead of accepting I am independent, ask: when did I want to decide for myself, and how did that work out?

Personal year number

A numerological value combining birth day, birth month, and a selected calendar year. This guide reduces the total to 1 through 9 and reads it as a symbolic theme.

For July 14 and 2026, the total is 22 and the reduced value is 4. The birth year is not included.

Personality number

A name number calculated from consonants. It symbolically concerns outward presentation and is not a psychological measurement.

Expression symbolically concerns how you contribute. Soul urge focuses on inner wishes; personality focuses on outward presentation. These are not psychological measurements. Rules for Y, accented letters, and other characters vary, so follow the calculator's explicitly documented method.

Pythagorean letter chart

A common mapping of Latin letters to the values 1 through 9. After I, valued at 9, the sequence starts again at J with 1. The name identifies the convention used.

A, J, and S receive 1; B, K, and T receive 2. ANNA uses A = 1 and N = 5, producing 12 and then 3.

Reduction

The process of adding the digits of a result again until a stated endpoint is reached. Numerology usually uses a base number, with some methods retaining master numbers.

38 first becomes 3 + 8 = 11. Without an exception, 1 + 1 then gives 2. An explicit master number rule may stop the process earlier.

Soul urge number

A name number calculated from vowels and read as a symbolic perspective on inner wishes. The treatment of Y depends on the method.
